Direct and multifaceted engagement with

Study Art in NYC
With NYC Chelsea’s art scene at our back door, students stay tuned in to art history in the making.
We sponsor many events and field trips to museums, galleries and artists’ studios to prepare the student for professional-level experience in the fine arts. Your SVA ID card allows free admittance to Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Modern Art, New Museum of Contemporary Art and Whitney Museum of American Art.
Inspiring Faculty
Students have access to more than 100 instructors in the SVA BFA Fine Arts department, a number unmatched in size and excellence anywhere else.
In the fourth year, undergraduate students are given their own studio space, where they meet with a team of faculty members for discussion, critique and weekly feedback.
Our curriculum provides a broad platform for experimentation.
In addition to traditional media, we offer experimental practices in every art medium. Our Undergraduate, Continuing Education and Artist Residency Programs add up to a total of more than 140 course offerings.
From Drawing and Painting classes to glass, bronze or neon workshops, Digital Sculpture, New Media, Bio Art, Printmaking or immersive Installation Art, our department lets you discover new directions in creativity.
Professional Experience in a Vibrant Community
We invite dealers and curators to Open Studios and gallery exhibitions showcasing your work, providing a chance for you to make important connections. Networking opportunities prepare our students for job placements and career development. Our alumni have worked at top art museums, animation studios, education venues, art therapy practices, public art programs and other allied professions.
