As Hayoung Kim’s paintings developed over the past year they began to expand. She uses larger surfaces to increase her scale. She allows herself more freedom to express emotive content through the physicality of her medium. She pushes her materials to exploit specific properties. In the process, she exceeds the limits of reality to create imaginary surreal spaces that incorporate dreams, wishes and hopes.
