Olivia Kim is an abstract colorist. She mixes premade oil colors from tubes to create colors that are appropriate for her paintings. A mix of Alizarin Crimson and Viridian Hue creates black. A mix of that black with Titanium White becomes purple. With those three basic colors she mixes other colors as needed.

She records each color formula in a notebook for future reference. To date she has mixed 46 unique colors. Whatever her subject matter and whatever her content, Olivia Kim is foremost, an abstract colorist.
