Hanying Shi’s work explores intangibles such as emptiness and loss. It may seem contradictory to couple the terms “presence” and “emptiness” but Shi believes that they co-exist. Shi aims to achieve an awareness of “emptiness,” of “blankness,” and of loss as it relates to acts of destruction.
