The process of painting with oil paint helps Feixuan Huang move away from the realism of her native culture. In reaction to the tightly detailed realism of her early years, Huang now prefers subtle grey-toned colors and large scale brush strokes that mute reality, like fading memories. Slightly out-of-focus imagery tells a story but also veils it to create an ethereal sense and to evoke a delicate curiosity.
