Emma Fasciolo’s practice leans toward conceptual, three-dimensional sculptures and installations; all of which address her personal relationship to control, comfort and the artificial qualities that are present in society today. Her subject matter includes chains, fences, thorns and barriers—symbols of control and security. Her symbols reference the more vulnerable in society, such as women and those who are marginalized. A corresponding theme involves a juxtaposition of the man-made and the organic; the artificial and the natural.
