Bailey Smith, Is That Necessary?, 2020. Oil on wood panels, fabric, ribbon, and thread, Dimensions variable.
Bailey Smith is fascinated by the nostalgic imagery found in media, particularly imagery of the 1980s and 1990s that reference feminism and social justice. Smith is drawn to that which appears to be superficially beautiful or aesthetically pleasing, but upon further investigation, is found to have a deeper or darker meaning. Overall, her art is her way of processing both social topics and interpersonal ideas.
