Please become a Mahō shōnen!

Liu Yizhi, Glance, 2021. Acrylic, Oil pastel on Wood panels. 24 x 12 inches.
Since ancient times, we have likened pain and disaster to monsters and we have created heroes to battle them. Popular culture has created the knight to defeat the dragon and the Ultraman to fight against Godzilla. If we can portray visually that which we find unbearable, we can find a solution. I haven’t found the perfect evil metaphor for the Covid pandemic; therefore, I invite people to become a Mahō shōnen—a Magical boy/ girl. Maybe then, WE will uncover the monster and discover a solution.
