![This work represents the inner world of myself during the beginning of pandemic. Ambulances kept ringing outside of my apartment. I can’t fall asleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw people walk past by me and disappear. I haven’t walked outside to see the world for almost 2 months since early April. In this work, I sculpted New York City during that darkest time.](https://bfafinearts.sva.edu/wp-content/uploads/New-York-City-During-Padamic-Suyu-Chen-800x600.jpg)

![A mound of clay painted in blues and grays. From the artist: I think art shouldn’t be limited by material, so I usually use more than one material in one work. This ceramic piece is about texture. The shape of this vase is waved, and I applied the wet clay onto the surface with palate knife to stimulate the sea wave. In addition, I painted the surface with acrylic to enhance the sense of texture.](https://bfafinearts.sva.edu/wp-content/uploads/Wave1-Suyu-Chen-800x600.jpg)

![Photo stills of a glass vial, Pigments are floating and swirling inside. From the artist: This series is about keeping nature in a tiny container. The nature patterns move randomly in the tube at first, but they will be permanent as the resin cooled down. I used the artificial material to stimulate capturing the natural elements and keep them with me. Nature is usually unpredictable and untouchable, but it is very interesting to make an artificial nature which can be handled by one hand.](https://bfafinearts.sva.edu/wp-content/uploads/Storm-Suyu-Chen-900x346.jpg)
