The painting depicts an orange demon emerges with a corona beer case from underwater and presents it to a Mughal prince who is surrounded by three prisoners and eleven men who are his viziers, advisors and protectors. The artwork is mounted on a wall surrounded by a purple painted arch and framed with 205 Corona beer caps.

Through this body of work titled “Yesterday Once More,” I attempt to bridge the chasm between two totally different cultures; west and east. I investigate appropriation as an art strategy and use Persian, Indian and Mughal miniature paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries as my primary source of intervention.

A painting depicting a depressed man sitting in a corner of a room with a dunce cap on his head and his mickey mouse shorts. The walls are dull and green with a brightly decorative carpet of pink acting as a contrast to add some color and life to the overall setting. The painting is surrounded by a handmade frame that looks like a vanity mirror with a red painted table in front of it.

Inspired by the early days of the pandemic, this painting shows two demons fighting over a paper towel in a somewhat erotical manner in the middle of a fantastical garden. The wooden frame cut out in a shape of a motif acts as a window to this moment. The painting sits inside a Jharoka, a type of overhanging enclosed balcony used in the architecture of Rajasthan, painted with house paint directly on the wall.

A painting depicting a demon with two heads running away with a sheep which seems to have devoured all the beings of the earth such as animals and humans. In the background you can see a banner plane which has an urdu phrase(translation of which is not necessary for the audience), printed on it flying in the same direction as the demon. The painting is surrounded by multiple borders painted in red, yellow and gold.
