Biography
Nancy Shaver (B.F.A. Pratt Institute, 1964) has been showing eclectic, object-based work for more than 40 years. Championed by Hudson, owner of Feature, Inc. from her first commercial gallery show in Chicago (1986) until Hudson’s death (2014), Shaver is now represented by Derek Eller Gallery, NYC.
Since 1998, Ms. Shaver has run Henry (henryinhudson.com), a curiosity/antique store in Hudson, New York. Her shop – part art studio/part retail store – gave rise to a group project, Incident Report (incidentreport.info), created with artists Max Goldfarb and Allyson Strafella.
Shaver has received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (1993), an Anonymous Was a Woman Award (2008), a Guggenheim Fellowship (2010), a Purchase Fund Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (2012), and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award (2014). Several pieces of her early photography were included in Robert Gober: The Heart is Not a Metaphor exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (2015). Shaver was also included in MoMA-PS1’s Greater New York (2015), La Biennale di Venezia (2017), and Outliers and the American Vanguard Art at the National Gallery, Washington, DC (2018). She has taught in Bard College’s MFA program for more than 20 years.
